There’s a problem with the world. That problem is sin. We are a fallen and broken creation. The world was originally created perfect. But when mankind sinned, we drug all of what God created with us. We cannot get away from it for we are born into sin, with a sinful nature.
The issue with sin is that it cannot exist in God’s presence. He is the perfect and holy Being, and the imperfection of sin is a direct contradiction to His nature. He hates sin. But we were created to have a relationship with Him. However, in our sins we cannot approach Him. Every one of our sins is a violation against God Himself. God also being the perfect Judge must punish all sin. No matter how minor or major sins may be in our eyes, we are condemned by them.
And the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as the person who has broken all of God’s laws. -James 2:10
If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. -1 John 1:8
The human heart is the most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? -Jeremiah 17:9
We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall. And our sins, like the wind, sweep us away. – Isaiah 64:6
Therein lies the problem. God is all that is pure and perfect. Sin is evil. God can have no part of sin. So as sinners, we could never enter Heaven.
For the wages of sin is death… -Romans 2:23
If you do not believe in sin or that you are guilty of anything deserving judgement, you must ask yourself: Have you ever told a lie (even a ‘white lie’)? A person that tells a lie is called a liar. Have you ever stolen anything (no matter how insignificant)? A person who steals is called a thief. Even our own thoughts can condemn us. Have you ever looked at someone with lust? This makes you an adulterer at heart. Have you ever hated someone? Jesus said that if you hate someone, you have committed murder in your heart. Liars, thieves, adulterers, murders… they all have a place in Hell. That’s only four of the commandments. And if we break one, we are guilty of all. Don’t feel like I’m pointing fingers. I did not ask one question that I could deny. I am guilty.
God is many things. He Judgement, He is Wrath, He will see that all sin is answered for. But he is also Mercy and Understanding. He knows that we are born into sin and cannot live perfect lives. He does not wish anyone to perish, because Hell was not made for us. Hell was made for Satan and his angels. So He provided the way away from this fate. Jesus Christ.
The fine must be paid, and He offered it. In the man Jesus Christ, He died a death we all deserve. But death could not hold Him because He was perfect. In defeating death, sin was also defeated. All one has to do is to accept His offer of substitution, and follow Him.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16
What are the implications of this? What are we to such a Being? He could turn His head from us, snuff us from existence with a thought. Yet He doesn’t. He lowers Himself to our level. And once here, He gets down on His knees and washes the feet of His followers. This was a task only done by the basest of servants. And then He shamed Himself by letting Himself go through the process of crucifixion. He endured pain unimaginable on my behalf. He died a criminals death so that life could be offered.
All you have to do is confess and repent of your sins. And accept Jesus as the Son of God, and your savior.
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus in Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. -Romans 10:9-10
Once we’ve repented of our sins and accepted Jesus as our Savior, our sins are erased. The payment for those violations has been paid. We are new. Then we begin our walk with Jesus Christ, day by day, ever onward.
